One way is looking at cameras with the same lens that will give you similarly looking images, and the other way to look at cameras with equivalent features and specs. Now there are two ways to look at what it means for a camera to be an alternative to the Contax T2. I will order them roughly by lowest to highest current selling price. Some of them are cheaper and some more expensive, of course if your budget is guiding your next purchase you can take a look at the cheaper alternatives to the Contax T2. Let’s take a look at some other film cameras that are comparable alternatives to the Contax T2. All the best.Perhaps you’ve considered buying it yourself but can’t afford it, don’t trust it, or feel it’s too mainstream for your style. I hope that the info above is of some help. Like any tool, it is only as good as the person who is using it.
Repair contax g2 how to#
However, the G2 with a 35-70 Vario Sonnar is a great travel camera once you understand how to use the autofocus. The Leica M system has many advantages over the G2. Checking to make sure that the screw is tight will save you a lot of potential grief and inaccurately exposed shots. A 6-7mm wide screwdriver blade will fit the slot after you press down on the shutter speed dial lock button. However, the dial setting aligned with the index mark does not match the actual shutter speed displayed in the viewfinder.īottom line, if you own a G2, take a slotted screwdriver and gently tighten (use finger pressure, not wrist pressure or elbow pressure) the shutter speed dial screw. Once rotated 180 degrees, it "locks" into the two underlying pins in the mechanism and fools you into thinking that all is well. If you have a G2 and carry it with a strap, the shutter speed dial rubs against your clothing and may cause the cap to become just loose enough to cause the 180 degree rotation without an obvious "loose dial". The reprogramming is not difficult once you understand the programming paradigm. After the reprogramming did not work, I disassembled the ss dial cap, repositioned, and then had to reprogram the EEPROM back to its initial settings. However, because I did not think that the problem was a 180 degree rotated shutter speed dial cap, I reprogrammed the EEPROM to what I thought should work. Marcelo - I probably would not have had to reprogram the EEPROM with the shutter speeds. I hope this information is of help to others who may encounter the same problem. All of this is well explained in the Contax G2 repair manual, pages C-8 to C-16. The shutter speeds are then set and can be viewed in the viewfinder as the shutter speed dial is rotated. This stores the new values in the EEPROM. The shutter button is depressed for 3 sec. The AEL is set to "on" position, the film counter LED is set to "OO" using the focus dial (the Main LCD will read 0000. Again, the AEL is set to "on", the focus dial is used to set the film counter LED to 31, the "on" switch is set to "AEL", the Main LED is set to the hexidecimal value for 4000. The "on" switch is set to "AEL", and the Main LED is set to the calcuated hexidecimal value for 30. The film counter is set to 30 using the focus dial. "AEL" is then switched to the "on" position. Using the focus dial, the film speed counter is set to #29, the "on" switch is set to "AEL", and the main LCD value is adjusted to the calculated hexidecimal value for B. The camera body is then placed in "adjusting mode III" by setting the ABC lever to +1 setting.

The repair manual contains a decimal to hexidecimal conversion chart. The answers are converted from decimal to hexadecimal values (if the answers equal 0, 1, or 2, the calculated hexidecimal values are the same as the decimal values). Three readings are then taken from the Main LCD display, one each with the shutter speed dial set to 4000, 30, and B respectively.Īdjusted values for 4000, 30, and B are then determined by taking the respective readings from the 4000, 30, and B positions and substracting 221 from the 4000 reading, 130 from the 30 reading, and 26 from the B reading. The film counter LED is set to #11 (#11 = shutter speed dial A/D value) by turning the Focus Dial. To adjust the shutter speeds and reprogram the EEPROM, the camera is placed in "manual adjusting mode" by turning on the "ON" switch, opening the back, pushing the reset button and depressing the shutter release button within 2 seconds. It was necessary to loosen the shutter dial screw, rotate the dial cap 180 degrees into proper position with the index mark, and reprogram the EEPROM. The underlying shutter mechanism has two pins that align with the dial cap. The shutter dial had loosened just enough to rotate 180 degrees (I think from body friction while being carryed with a strap). After obtaining a G2 repair manual, I was able to fix the problem.
